Arya News - DGCA found that IndiGo failed to reliably operate its approved schedule—only 59,438 of 64,346 flights flew in November 2025—so the regulator cut its Winter Schedule by 5% across all sectors.
NEW DELHI – In a significant move, the Centre has ordered to reduce the Winter Schedule 2025 by 5 per cent for IndiGo. This will be applicable across sectors, particularly on high-demand, high-frequency flights, and to avoid single-flight operations on a sector by IndiGo.
In the latest order, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated, “…IndiGo has not demonstrated the ability to operate its schedules efficiently. It is directed to reduce the schedule by 5 pr cent across sectors. IndiGo is required to submit a revised schedule by 5 pm on 10th December”.
This came after the DGCA examined the Winter schedule 2025 for IndiGo, against the backdrop of wide disruptions due to massive cancellations of flights. Notably, as per the schedule issued by the DGCA, 15,014 departures were approved per week for IndiGo, amounting to 64,346 flights approved for November 2025. However, only 59,438 flights were operated in November 2025, with 951 flight cancellations during the month.
Also, as compared to SS25, IndiGo was allowed an enhancement of the schedule by 6 per cent with 403 aircraft as against 351 aircraft in Summer Schedule 2025. However, it has been observed that the airline could operate only 339 aircraft in October 2025 and 344 aircraft in November 2025.
It clearly states that the airline has not demonstrated an ability to operate these schedules efficiently.
Eighth day of disruptions: More cancellations hit major airports
Today, on the eighth consecutive day of disruptions in IndiGo flight operations, the airline announced further cancellations – 16 (09 arrivals and 07 departures) for Ahmedabad Airport and 31 (14 arrivals and 17 departures) for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. There were more cancellations at other airports as well but the number could not be immediately confirmed.
Thousands of passengers nationwide continued to face delays, missed connections, and long hours at terminals today.
Govt monitoring situation in real time
Since December 3, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA have been monitoring airport operations in real time due to the unprecedented disruptions.
K Ram Mohan Naidu, the Minister for Civil Aviation, addressed the Lok Sabha today on the IndiGo crisis. He spoke in Parliament for the second consecutive day. He had briefed the Rajya Sabha yesterday on the same issue.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the Minister highlighted that no airline will be permitted to cause any hardship to passengers through planning failures or non-compliance.
He said, “IndiGo disruptions are stabilising; all other airlines continue to operate smoothly across the country. Airports across the country are reporting normal conditions, with no crowding or distress. Refunds, baggage tracing and passenger support measures remain under the supervision of the Ministry. DGCA has issued show-cause notices to IndiGo’s senior leadership and commenced a detailed enforcement investigation. Based on the report, strict and appropriate action will be taken. No airline, however large, will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance…”
