( NewsNation ) — An Australian man who stomped on the head of one of the alleged gunmen who shot at Jews celebrating Hanukkah in Bondi, Sydney, regrets not being more forceful.
Jacob Barnfield helped apprehend one of the accused shooters and joined “ Elizabeth Vargas Reports ” to discuss the events in which 15 people were killed and dozens remain in the hospital .
“The only thing I regret is not doing it harder and more of it,” Barnfield said when discussing kicking the alleged shooter in the head.
Barnfield said he had finished an evening swim and was sitting around when he heard gunshots, which he initially believed were fireworks.

Once realizing something he was wrong, Barnfield ran closer to the sound of the gunshots.
“The police had shot both the shooters at that point, so about 20 seconds after that, after not hearing many shots, a bunch of us stormed the bridge as well as the police,” he said.
“There was probably a few police officers and a few civilians all trying to hold them down. And yeah, everyone started just jumping on them, stomping on them, kicking them in the head, everyone getting their two cents in.”
Barnfield described events as feeling like a “war zone,” adding his motivation for following the gunshots was to “get there and try to help as much as possible and see what I could do.”
