            1,361 receive Bruneian citizenship certificates

            Thursday, December 4, 2025 - 06:36:52
            1,361 receive Bruneian citizenship certificates
Arya News - The Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented several reforms and improvements in terms of policies, procedures, and processes for the welfare and well-being of the citizens and residents of the country, said Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to the awarding of Citizenship Certificates to 1,361 recipients.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), through the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) has implemented several reforms and improvements in terms of policies, procedures, and processes for the welfare and well-being of the citizens and residents of the country, said Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
He added, “Accordingly, the Guidelines and Eligibility Requirements for the Applications for obtaining Permanent Resident Status in Brunei Darussalam have been updated and came into effect on December 31, 2024.”
He said this as the guest of honour during the 43rd Citizenship Certificate Presentation Ceremony at the BRIDEX Conference Hall, Kampong Jerudong yesterday. Through the efforts and initiatives undertaken, he said, “The MoHA via the INRD, has successfully processed applications, including those previously pending (backlog), reflecting the ministry’s continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of applicants and is the result of the collective efforts of officers and staff in enhancing service efficiency.”
Harmony and well-being, the minister emphasised, “are the pillars of a nation; without harmony, development will be hindered, and without well-being, all achievements will lose their meaning. A peaceful nation is built through collective effort – not borne by the government alone, but shared by all citizens and residents. Therefore, the responsibility of preserving peace and well-being must be seen as a collective duty, and not one that rests solely on the government”.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin added that Brunei Vision 2035 “is a national goal that requires the support and active participation of all citizens and residents in upholding the government’s policies and initiatives”.
He said, “Community involvement through various programmes, the development of mukim and village institutions, as well as the implementation of numerous welfare projects, is essential in accelerating the achievement of the nation’s aspirations.”
Organised by the INRD at the MoHA, the event saw the minister presenting the citizenship certificates to the recipients.
The recipients of citizenship comprised those who applied for citizenship under Chapter 15 of the Brunei Nationality Act, under Section 5(1) and 8(1) and have passed Malay language written test, Section 6(1) – children of mothers who are Brunei citizens, children to fathers who are Brunei citizens and adopted children to parents holding Brunei citizenship and Section 5(6) – wives to husbands who are Brunei citizens.
Acting Director of the INRD Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim reminded the recipients to honour and uphold their citizenship, emphasising that it is a privilege of the highest value and are truly grateful and deeply appreciative of such significant recognition.
